SV Design Recognized at BRAGB PRISM Awards Gala
Beverly, MA – The Block at Odell Park and The Cabot received Gold and Silver PRISM Awards, respectively, at BRAGB’s (Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston) recent awards gala. SV Design was recognized for its role as the architect and interior designer on the projects, along with other project team members.
The Block at Odell Park was awarded Gold in the category of Excellence in Community Design: Best Mixed-Use Community Development.
The Block at Odell Park is a pinnacle project in downtown Beverly located adjacent to The Depot train station. The development features 9,000 square-feet of ground floor retail space, 106 open-concept apartments with private balconies, a sky lounge, community room, and an expansive outdoor courtyard. A portion of the courtyard is open for public use and was designed to be utilized as an extension of the neighboring Odell Park.
There are subtle nods throughout the building to the history of the site, which included two hotels in the 1800-1900’s. One of the hotel buildings, originally named Hotel Walter, was restored and incorporated into the architectural designs for The Block at Odell Park. Much of the building’s original, unique features and framework were preserved and now add a modern historic flair to the new building and the well-known corner of Rantoul Street, where many locals recall the home of Italian restaurant, Casa de Lucca.
The Block at Odell Park project team: Architecture & Interiors: SV Design; Builder: Erland Construction; Developer: Beverly Crossing; Landscape Architect: Meridian Associates; Engineering: Petersen Engineering and Souza, True & Partners.
The Cabot was awarded Silver in the category of Excellence in Remodeling: Best Historical Restoration Over $1 Million.
The Cabot is a historical, quintessential 1920’s Vaudeville theater and the legacy of the visionary showmanship and architectural passion of the Ware Brothers. Of the 20,000 Vaudeville theaters built in the 1920s, only 250 still exist. At risk of falling to ruin, The Cabot was rescued by community activists in 2014 and converted to a live-performance venue.
Through years of donated time and services, SV Design provided careful restoration and preservation tactics to revitalize the theater’s glory, while adding thoughtful architectural and interior design updates for modern-day technologies and functions. The project team has worked to preserve the exterior’s classical revival style and the ornate interior Adams style motif and murals. The lobby was restored and contains the original chandelier, rose window, marble cladding, and wooden poster cases with brass hardware.
In addition to the restoration of the historic marquee and replacement of the auditorium seats, an open floor plan was created to accommodate a broader range of performances and events, and a new elevator and energy-efficient heating and cooling system was added throughout the building.
With the addition of a lively new bar and performance space, The Cabot is once again a vibrant venue.
The final upcoming phase at The Cabot will revitalize the façade, stage side lounge, green room, and offices.

Witches Stair and Cape Associates, Inc.
SV Design was also acknowledged as part of the winning project teams for two additional PRISM Awards – A Gold Best Architectural Millwork: Exterior / Interior Custom Design Feature with Payne Bouchier Fine Builders for the Breed’s Hill Witches Stair and A Silver Best Mixed-Use Community Development with Cape Associates, Inc. and Hawk Design for The Chatham Revival office / apartment project.
The Witches Stair is a unique alternating tread device with the same height, depth, and cadence as a traditional staircase, which allows code-compliant access from the 3rd floor to the roof deck in a tight, restricted space while serving as quite the conversation piece.
The Chatham Revival is a new, two-story building on Main Street in Chatham and home to Cape Associates, Inc. Custom Builders. The main floor features Cape Associates’ commercial space complete with offices, shared work space, an entry reception desk, conference room, and kitchenette - while the second floor houses three beautiful two-bedroom apartments. The building is in line with historic Cape Cod vernacular with its white cedar shingle flare and historic window sill.
